=About Us=
American Medical Student Association 2007-2008
AMSA is the only pre-med organization on the UCR campus that has attained national recognition. National recognition ensures that any medical/professional school will recognize that members involved within the UCR chapter which has been a presence within the medical community for the preceding years. AMSA’s National Membership includes nearly 60,000 pre-med students, medical students, interns, residents, and physicians. This large base of students and professionals allows for communication concerning many important topics including: universal health care, eliminating health disparities, improving medical education, advancing professionalism in medicine, and providing access to important current events for pre-med students.
As a local chapter of AMSA we want to make our members aware of medically related issues both locally and abroad. AMSA UCR would like to prepare every pre-med student for their particular path to medical school. In order to achieve this goal ASMA UCR wants to make sure that every member is involved in both academic and community related events. AMSA UCR has assembled a team of individuals who are interested in leadership, academic performance, service within the community of Riverside, and recognition by administrators as one of the most involved clubs on UCR’s campus. These individuals strive to make students aware of medically related issues of the country by providing guest speakers from within the medical field, admissions counselors from local California medical schools, current medical students, and advisors experienced in preparing medical applications.
AMSA UCR would like to enrich the experience of the undergraduate pre-med student by providing students with the knowledge that exists outside of academics and their score on the MCAT. AMSA UCR will provide students with opportunities in community service, fundraising events, social activities with fellow pre-med students, and the ability to network within the pre-med community at UCR. This constant exposure to opportunities will allow you to set yourselves apart from other competitive pre-med students across the country.
Our website is designed to connect people who seek out pre-med opportunities with a list of links that have information concerning many of the current issues surrounding healthcare in the United States. This information will become an essential tool for discussion in the future of your pre-med career. AMSA UCR has also created a myspace page for ease of communication and information about upcoming events that involve the local chapter.
AMSA UCR is a community based organization that wishes to gain from the contribution of its members. One way members can contribute is by providing publicity for upcoming events within all of their classes. These Class Representatives are selected from the collection of local members and exhibit enthusiasm for advancement within AMSA UCR. Ideally, class representatives will be considered for promotion within the club as Officers for the following academic year. This ideology is what has allowed AMSA UCR to be successful for the duration of its presence at the University of California, Riverside.
Whether you decide to join AMSA UCR or not, we hope that we can contribute to your future as a pre-med student.
